Wood Chips in the Garden

We’ve added wood chips as a foundational soil building element for years now. Some of our gardens have been made up nearly entirely of wood chip, with some compost, some clay-ey soil and some compost tea poured on to get things going. I take a look here at some such beds set in motion in August of 2015, now that we’re in February 2020. The soil is beautiful, the chips have broken down to perfection, and plants grow very well. The point is to not be scared to work with them, and to be patient if you don’t get amazing results ASAP as good things can take time. We had decent growth year 1, but the moral of the story is it just has gotten better and better every year since!
